Music

From Doris: Standing on the Promises   1.     Standing on the promises of Christ, my King, Through eternal ages let His praises ring!  Glory in the highest I will shout and sing— Standing on the promises of God. Standing, standing, Standing on the promises of Christ, my Savior; Standing, standing— I’m standing on the promises of God. 2.     Standing on the promises that cannot fail When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail, By the living Word of God I shall prevail— Standing on the promises of God. Standing, standing, Standing on the promises of Christ, my Savior; Standing, standing— I’m standing on the promises of God. 3.     Standing on the promises of Christ, the Lord, Bound to Him eternally by love’s strong cord, Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword— Standing on the promises of God. Standing, standing, Standing on the promises of Christ, my Savior; Standing, st...

Counting Blessing

From Doris: Paul gave me another priesthood blessing. I need heaven’s help to deal with pain. I managed to stay at church for forty-five minutes today. That is my record so far. We went to the temple again this week. That makes two weeks in a row! Paul willingly goes on walks with me even though doing so hurts his knee. A dear friend from Utah called me this week. We visited for an hour. We were able to video chat with all seven of our children this week. Paul has created a playlist for me on Spotify that has music that comforts me. We went on four walks this week.

Grieving

From Doris: I read one of my January 2025 journal entries in which I was counting down the days until we would begin our mission. That was painful to read.

Tender Mercy

From Doris: Since my cancer diagnosis, I have dealt with brain fog which makes working on a computer challenging. The fog is beginning to lessen.

Scripture

From Doris: Mormon 5:23 Know ye not that ye are in the hands of God? Know ye not that he hath all power, and at his great command the earth shall be rolled together as a scroll?

Did you know?

From Doris:   Our family has walked 1488.97 miles to Bristol, England. If I add seven ice cubes to my twenty-one-ounce Hydro Flask water bottle before filling it with water, by the time I finish drinking the water, the ice cubes have all melted. Birds are everywhere in Eagle. Just this week I saw twenty sparrows in our front yard. My father-in-law was born January 31, 1926. Paul’s family is doing activities to celebrate what would have been his 100th birthday. We will be making Mulligan Stew using Dad’s recipe. Paul began painting our basement. He finished painting the ceiling, but it took two coats of paint. I can almost always manage to eat Cheerios if nothing else tastes good.  Lachlan likes doughnuts with orange, blue and white sprinkles.

Inspirational Quote

From Doris:   Dallin H. Oaks General Conference October 2015 “Because of His atoning experience in mortality, our Savior is able to comfort, heal, and strengthen all men and women everywhere, but I believe He does so only for those who seek Him and ask for His help. The Apostle James taught, ‘Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up’ (James 4:10). We qualify for that blessing when we believe in Him and pray for His help.”

General

From Paul:   Cycle 8 Week three   My mind of late has been on the track that we are in a marathon and not a sprint. I thought of the writings of Paul, who used the race metaphor to encourage us to carry on in the face of opposition for that which God has provided for us through Jesus Christ.   If we were engaged in a competitive race, there would be only one winner. But in the gospel sense, we are engaged in a race against ourselves. Just as athletes train to overcome and master the tendencies of their flesh to be lazy, we strive to have our bodies in subjection to spiritual things. But competitive races have limited rewards for those who do not claim the top spot. By some it is said that second place is the first loser. But in God’s plan, we can all be winners if we continue faithfully in the race.   24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. 25 And every man that striveth...
