Counting Blessings

From Doris: Slowly but surely I am getting stronger. I hope this trend continues since my cancer treatments will remain the same. Paul and I went on five walks this past week.  Many of the days we walked a mile.   Greer came over Tuesday evening and created a gallery wall in our family room.  This particular display has pictures of the Savior as well as of temples.  I feel the spirit as I look at this wall. My sister, Jeana, gave us some bonsai seeds. Jeana said that the bonsai plant will grow slowly and she thought I would enjoy watching it grow as I heal slowly. Autumn here in Eagle is gorgeous. I love the bright colors of the leaves. I also enjoy the crisp air. We have a senior health advisor who is helping us navigate through 2026 Medicare benefit packages. Jonathan’s family will be joining us for Thanksgiving. Technology allows us to participate in our church meetings from our own home. Heavenly Father’s patience with me is comforting.

Tender Mercy

From Doris: I am a daughter of heavenly parents who love me and understand me.

Humor

From Jonathan: I swallowed a bunch of synonyms yesterday. Gave me thesaurus throat I've ever had. From Doris: Lachlan came over yesterday.  He saw the sheet covering our tomatoes from frost and announced that we had a ghost. He took the “ghost” off the tomatoes and brought it to me.

Did you know?

From Doris: My first infusion was exactly seven months after we received our mission call. The call came on October 29th and my first infusion was May 29th. Going on walks helps ease my shoulder pain. I have made 29 English paper pieced flowers.  I will make number 30 this week and post a picture of them next week. We have walked 751.78 miles as a family to Bristol. We are nearest Plunkett, Saskatchewan, Canada.   I love the sound made while walking through fallen leaves. We live close to Kyle’s family and get to spend time with them.

Grieving

From Doris: We received our   mission call on October 29, 2024, one year ago this coming Wednesday.

Inspirational Quote

From Doris: Author Athol Dickson “Starting immediately, thank God for every gift He gives, from those as small as a whiff of honeysuckle or jasmine in your backyard, to the realization that you just had a few moments without back pain, to really big things like the fact that people you love are in the next room safe and sound. “I’m talking about the practice of intentional gratitude. ‘Intentional,’ because it involves an aggressive effort to remain aware of God’s gifts as you move through your day, and to actively acknowledge each gift with a simple ‘thank you.’

Music

Let Us All Press On | Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square 1.Let us all press on in the work of the Lord, That when life is o’er we may gain a reward; In the fight for right let us wield a sword, The mighty sword of truth. Fear not, though the enemy deride; Courage, for the Lord is on our side. We will heed not what the wicked may say, But the Lord alone we will obey.   2. We will not retreat, though our numbers may be few When compared with the opposite host in view; But an unseen pow’r will aid me and you In the glorious cause of truth. Fear not, though the enemy deride; Courage, for the Lord is on our side. We will heed not what the wicked may say, But the Lord alone we will obey.   3. If we do what’s right we have no need to fear, For the Lord, our helper, will ever be near; In the days of trial his Saints he will cheer, And prosper the cause of truth. Fear not, though the enemy deride; Courage, for the Lord is on our sid...

Scripture

From Doris Alma 31:38  And the Lord provided for them that they should hunger not, neither should they thirst; yea, and he also gave them strength, that they should suffer no manner of afflictions, save it were swallowed up in the joy of Christ. Now this was according to the prayer of Alma; and this because he prayed in faith.

General Update

From Paul: Cycle 5 of 24 (Continued) We have had plenty of opportunities to explore how our approach works for managing the side effects of Doris’ treatment. We are recognizing a few patterns that help us adapt with her needs. Walks are helping! With these morning walks we are also finding that if Doris moves her arms during the walk, her shoulder joint pain is decreased afterwards. That also comes with the consequence of increased exhaustion during the afternoon hours. Side effects in a gastrointestinal way are still an issue, but there are stretches of time where Doris can rely on the comfort and confidence that she needs so we can enjoy time together. We are finding that attending the temple for initiatory fits in with the predictability of her needs. We also find that we can attend church at the 10:30 start time. However, her ability to sit for the entire sacrament meeting in the folding chairs is limited. We will change things up a little for where we sit next week...
